Each year, NCS recognizes outstanding students and professionals in the Section with the following awards:
Professional Award of Merit: This award is bestowed to Society members living in the Section for outstanding professional accomplishments in wildlife conservation. The award is restricted to living conservationists who are or have recently been active within the geographic boundaries of the Section. Criteria for the award include but are not limited to: 1) contribution to knowledge, 2) single outstanding acts, or 3) leadership over a period of several years in any area of wildlife work including research, wildlife law enforcement, management, administration, or education. Nominations for this award are due November 30 of each year.
Student Chapter of the Year: This award recognizes a Student Chapter within the Section boundaries for its exemplary contributions to the Society's mission and goals. Student chapters are asked to report their annual activities to the Section secretary, and this report is used as the award application. The Student Chapter of the Year is awarded $1,000 to support chapter activities including travel to conferences, workshops, and other chapter events.
Outstanding Wildlife Graduate and Undergraduate Student Awards: This award recognizes outstanding students and future wildlife professionals within Section boundaries. Undergraduate or Graduate (Masters or Ph.D.) students pursuing a degree in wildlife ecology, wildlife management, zoology, or closely related field are encouraged to apply. A GPA > 3.0 is required to be considered. Students will be selected based on academic ands scholarly achievement, work experience, letters of recommendation (three letters are required), and extra-curricular activities in the Society. Award recipients will receive a monetary award of $500. Applications for each award are due November 30 of each year.
